RoughBook – Terms of Use

Last updated: 25 October 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and GenQi Consultancy Services LLP ("we", "us"), the maker of the RoughBook app. By installing or using RoughBook you agree to them. If you don't agree, please uninstall the app.

The short version

1. Your licence to use RoughBook

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use RoughBook on devices you own or control. You may use it for personal use and for keeping records for your own work or business. The app, its design and its code belong to us or to our licensors. You receive a licence to use them, not ownership.

2. Your content

3. Ledgers, interest and figures

The ledger book totals, balances and carries forward the amounts you enter. It is a record-keeping aid only. It is not accounting, tax, legal or financial advice, and it is not a substitute for books of account that a law may require you to keep. Please check important figures yourself. We are not responsible for decisions made on the basis of figures in the app.

Interest books work out days and simple interest by the rules shown in the app (rate per month, 30-day months, both days counted, oldest amount cleared first, grace days, rounded down to the rupee). Check the result against your own agreement with the other party. The app does not lend, borrow, collect or move money, and it is not a lending service. If you lend money in the course of a business, you are responsible for following the laws that apply to you (for example, state money-lending laws and income-tax rules on interest and TDS).

4. Sharing through Google Sheets

If you share a ledger through Google Sheets, the Sheet is created in your Google account and shared with the people you choose. Google's terms and privacy policy apply to it. You are responsible for who you share with and for having the right to share what's in the ledger. You can remove people or stop sharing at any time. Changes go from the app to the Sheet only: edits made in the Sheet don't come back into the app.

4a. Scripts

Scripts you write in Script Book are yours, including all rights in them. They stay on your phone like everything else, so back them up. Voice writing uses your phone's speech service and can mishear words or names; check what it heard before you share a script. You are responsible for what you write and share, including making sure you have the right to use any material that isn't yours.

5. RoughBook Pro and add-ons (one-time purchases)

RoughBook Pro and each add-on (such as Script Book) are separate one-time purchases. What this section says about Pro applies to each add-on in the same way.

6. Fair use

Please don't:

7. Reminders

We do our best to make reminders ring on time. Android battery savers, phone settings, restarts or a switched-off phone can delay or stop them. Please don't rely on RoughBook alone for medicines, legal deadlines or anything where a missed reminder could cause harm.

8. Other services

RoughBook uses services from others: Google Play (installs, purchases and refunds), Google Sheets and Drive (optional sharing), and your phone's speech recogniser (optional dictation). Each is provided under its own terms, and we aren't responsible for them.

9. No warranty

RoughBook is provided "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, we make no promises that it will be error-free, uninterrupted or suitable for a particular purpose, or that data will never be lost.

10. Limit of our liability

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, such as lost data, profits or business, arising from the use of RoughBook. Our total liability for anything related to the app is limited to the amount you paid us for RoughBook Pro and add-ons, or ₹500 if you haven't bought any. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 or any other law that can't be excluded.

11. Ending this agreement

You can stop at any time by uninstalling the app. If you seriously break these terms, your licence to use the app ends.

12. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of India. If a disagreement arises, please contact us first; most problems can be sorted out quickly. If it can't be resolved, the courts at Hyderabad, Telangana, India will have jurisdiction, subject to any right you have to approach a consumer commission.

13. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we'll post the new version here with a new date. Big changes will also be shown in the app. Continuing to use RoughBook after a change means you accept it.

14. Privacy and open source

How RoughBook handles information is explained in the Privacy Policy. RoughBook is built with open-source software; see the Open-source licences.

15. Contact and complaints
